Fall Storms

What’s new?

Wow! It’s 2017! With the end of the school year and the start of my summer internship I have not had much time to do any form of photography in the last couple of months. Hopefully I’ll have more opportunities soon as I am now settled into Olathe, KS and started working my internship with Garmin.

Haven’t you taken any pictures?

Yeah, truth be told I took a few pictures that were worth sharing. On May 17 it stormed like crazy at my home near Lincoln, Nebraska. However, the weather let up just long enough to get outside and take some sweet pictures of the storm clouds. The goal with these pictures was really to capture the lighting and mood of the storm. I don’t feel like I succeeded at this goal, but they still look pretty cool!

In this image you can really see the cloud forms and why I wanted to take it in the first place! The clouds are roiling and even the trees are bending to the wind. I like the contrast between the grey sky and green and yellow lawn and fields.

This is a really cool panorama of my house with the storm right behind. Truth be told, I kind of wish I hadn’t used my cameras panorama mode and had tried to stitch it myself. As you can see, the exposure about half way through the storm clouds changes drastically and it kind of ruins the image to me. If I had taken the images manually I could have prevented the exposure change.

This is my favorite image of the shoot! I really like how the trees are dwarfed by the storm clouds, and again the textures are very apparent. I wish I had a better subject for this image, because I believe that with something in the foreground it really could have been a fantastic picture!

What’s Next?

Next week I will be in Montana helping KU excavate a T-Rex fossil! While this trip will be a ton of work, I fully expect to have plenty of time to take some great pictures. I’m incredibly excited to get my camera out there, so hopefully you’ll hear from me sometime in the next two week!
