Where am I?
Photography has been an interest of mine since childhood. I distinctly remember purchasing a digital camera with my father long before I purchased any other gadget. I believe I started with a Kodak Easyshare, one of the most dated looking cameras imaginable.
I have also, as it happens, long harboured an interest in writing. At one point in my childhood I wrote short stories and drew comics with my friends. Over the years, both of these hobbies have waned and faded, until now. This blog exists to document my progress as I proceed through a challenge. In order to improve upon both my writing and photographing skills, I am challenging myself to do one photography session every week of the 2016 Fall Semester, and post updates with these images regularly. Whether or not I adhere to this schedule is yet to be determined, and will likely depend heavily on my work load.
What is happening?
Let’s get more specific. It’s fine and all to say that I want to take a new picture everyday, but what kind of photography am I most interested in improving in? What follows is a list of the types of photography I would like to ensure I focus on throughout the challenge.
- Landscape
- Night Sky
- Nature
- Sunrise/Sunset
- Cars (my Jeep)
- Action - Sports
- Macro
- Street photography
- Portraits
How is this?
Alright! So, what’ll I be working with?
I am using a Sony α6300 with a multitude of lenses, including:
- 10 - 18mm Wide Angle
- 35mm f1.8 Prime with OSS
- 55 - 210mm f4.5 - f6.3
- Included 18 - 55mm kit lens
For post processing work I will be using Capture One 9 Pro for Sony on Windows 10.
I’ll leave you with a random quote I found about photography that hopefully, by the end of this adventure, I can understand. (Right now I have no idea what it means…)
“Taking pictures is like tiptoeing into the kitchen late at night and stealing Oreo cookies.” - Diane Arbus
